Technical Manager

The Pitchmark Group are looking to recruit a dynamic, confident and self-motivated technical manager to join Its thriving team.



The Pitchmark Group is a distinguished, Queen's Award-winning family-run business based in Bristol, UK. With a history spanning over a decade, the Group is composed of three prominent divisions: Pitchmark, Turfix, and Total Amenity Supplies. Originally established as Pitchmark in 2010, the company initially specialised in manufacturing line marking paint and equipment, with a particular emphasis on international markets.


Due to our continued growth, we are currently seeking an experienced, driven, and ambitious candidate with a strong technical background and proven track record of demonstrating and sharing technical knowledge within the sports turf sector. In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for technically led decision-making, as well as contribute to research and development efforts.


Additionally, this national position requires your physical presence at selected meetings to provide support to Key and Regional Account Managers, facilitating the maintenance and development of existing and potential customer relationships. With your extensive technical expertise and ability to share knowledge effectively, you will contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction and strengthening partnerships.


As part of your responsibilities, you will play a crucial role in the company's research and development initiatives, working to innovate and improve our products and solutions in the sports turf industry. Your expertise and technical knowledge will be instrumental in driving forward our R&D efforts, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the market.

Role Responsibilities:


  • Conduct technical product training via demonstrations across the UK and occasionally overseas

  • Lead research and development for line marking paints, machines and accessories across the UK and ROW market

  • Collating reports for R&D projects from inception through to HMRC submission

  • Liaise regularly with the UK distribution channels as well as Export Managers to collate market feedback, using this to ensure ongoing product development keeps up at the forefront of the line marking industry.

  • Create and manage thorough QC protocols and product testing schedules, to ensure product quality.

  • Attend periodic joint site visits with distributors to gain direct feedback from customers and on-site testing.

  • Attend trade exhibitions, events and educational seminars (approx. 5 events per year).

  • Support EU/ROW distributors with technical training, on a remote and physical support basis (approx.. 2-3 overnight stays per month)

  • Host line marking seminars and demonstration days in coordination with sporting & industry bodies, for example NGBs.

  • Provide internal training to the sales, marketing and customer support teams, ensuring understanding of line marking product developments, improvements and QC.


Knowledge and experience:


  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and escalate issues appropriately

  • Be proactive and take initiative in a logical, highly-driven manner

  • Be ambitious, motivated and determined

  • Be an outstanding communicator and have problem-solving skills

  • Be flexible and adaptable - overnight stays and potential overseas travel may be required

  • Willingness and ability to liaise with internal and external departments and teams

  • Can work to tight deadlines and manage multiple and changing priorities


Essential Skills:


  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and other company IT systems

  • Excellent technical knowledge and a minimum of 5 years’ experience working hands-on in the turf and amenity sector

  • Full and (preferably) clean driving license

  • Have strong organisational skills, be meticulous, and have excellent attention to detail


Desirable Skills:


  • Ability to speak a foreign language

  • Experience in project management or facilitation skills (desirable)

  • Experience working with line marking equipment (desirable)

  • GCSE Grade C above in Maths and English or equivalent

  • Have a willingness to learn

  • Management of a budget relating to grounds maintenance (desirable)
